A
composer who has composed over 600 songs to his credit
as a music director is unfortunately known by his son's
name and fame. That is the sad story of the life of
Sardar Malik!
Sardar Malik started life as dancer and even trained
under the famed Uday Shankar at his residential school
at Almora. He was always musically inclined as well
and had a good singing voice too. So he started doing
both performing in Uday Shankar’s troupe as a singer
and teaching choreography. He was then offered singing
assignments as well as music composition which he did
quite happily. He started concentrating on music composing
and created some beautiful masterpieces in films like
Rain Basera, Stage, Saranga, Bachpan, Thokar, Maharani
Padmini, Naag Jyoti, Abe Hayat, Poore Arab etc among
others. However, he became the completely innocent victim
of an argument between a famous lyricist and an even
more famous playback singer during recording of a song.
This cost him his career. After this he received only
B grade films and spent the rest of his life teaching
music. |
