Actor,
singer, composer, story and screenplay writer and film
maker. No, we are not talking about the legendary Kishore
Kumar here, its Shri Nath (S.N.) Tripathi. He was a
man of many talents. S. N. Tripathi's main scope of
film music was the much-neglected, much scorned mythologicals
to which he brought an aura of credibility thanks to
his exquisite tunes based on Indian classical music.
Playback singer Geeta Dutt's association with this veteran
composer goes a long way. In her debut year itself,
Tripathi ji gave her a song for the film Manasarovar
(1946). It was her first song with the legendary singer
Mohd. Rafi. The song was "Jai hind, yeh hind ki kahaniyaan"
with Binapani Mukherjee as the third singer. The two
legendary singers, Geeta Dutt and Mohd. Rafi went on
to sing more than 150 duets together in the coming years.
A detailed discussion about Geeta's duets with the legendary
Mohd. Rafi can be found here.
It seems that Tripathi did not compose any music during
the year 1947 and he had just one film “Shri Ram Bhakt
Hanuman” in 1948. There is no information if Geeta sang
any song for him during these two years. In 1949, we
have a beautiful solo “Mere daras deewane nain” for
the film Veer Ghatotkach. |
