A playback singer singing a song in a regional language and then the song’s tune being adopted in Hindi is not a new phenomenon. There are some songs of Geeta Dutt which she sang in Bengali which were re-used in Hindi. Some of the songs were sung by other singers. A song in point is the beautiful song ‘Jadu Bhora Banshi’ from the Bengali film Sathithara sung by Geeta Dutt and the composer Hemant Kumar. Hemantda used this tune for the song “Sara mora kajara churaya tune” sung by Mohd Rafi and Aarati Mukherjee for the film Do Dil.

However there are a few songs which Geeta Dutt sang in Gujrati or Bengali and they were again made in Hindi with the same tune, and it was again the magical Geeta Dutt who sang them. Here are four such instances listed below. (There could possibly more of such!)

One :

1) Rakh na ramakada - Mangal Phera (Gujarati)- Geeta Dutt, A R Oza
2) Tora manwa kyon ghabaraye re - Sadhana - Geeta Dutt

Two :

1) Sundari oh sundari – Samar (Bengali) - Geeta Dutt, Kishore Kumar
2) Anandi re - Jaal- Geeta Dutt

Three :

1) Taliyon na taale - Mangal Phera (Gujarati)- Geeta Dutt
2) Dekh ke akeli mohe - Baazi - Geeta Dutt

Four:

1) Tumi je amaar – Harano Sur (Bengali) - Geeta Dutt
2) Chale hum kahaan – Police - Geeta Dutt, Hemant Kumar
